May Stamps 2018

Estonia, a single stamp with the research vessel "Mare". Today the ship is 50 years old
and belongs to the Estonian Maritime Museum.

India, a souvenir sheet and a single stamp with the submarine INS "Kalvari".
The boat was built in India and handed over to the Indian Navy in September 2017.

Czech, a single stamp with the paddle-steamer "Vltava"; built in 1940.

Portugal, a souvenir sheet and a set with four stamps about the river Tejo (Tajo spain, also Tagus River).
On the sheet the river is pictured once and now, on top it is an ancient etching about the Lisbon port of
Pierre Aveline (1656 -1722).
There is also a maritime stamp in the set (above). It is a traditional fishing boat, presumably a Fragata
(Auke Palmhof), behind her the port control tower.

Cuba, a set with four stamps, oil-industry.
Below the refineries, oil tankers can be seen.
To better recognize these tankers, they are shown enlarged on the bottom; but it works
the picture then a bit blurry.
But that's how the ship's name is readable.

Faroe Islands, a set of two stamps, birdcatching on the islands.
Birdcatching is still traditionally practiced on the Faroe Islands with nets mounted on poles.

Portugal, a set with four stamps about the town Porto.
Among them this stamp with a local craft on the river Douro.

Peru, a se-tenant of two stamps, centenary PUCP (Pontificia Universidad Católica del
Perú), the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.

Uruguay, a sheet with three stamps, bicentenary of the Navy.
Depicted are the schooner Capitan Miranda, the frigate Uruguay and a helicopter.

Suriname, a se-tenant of four stamps, classical ships.
Depicted are the "Argo 1984, Brendan 1976, Hsu Fu 1993, Sutton Hoo 1939".
After the dates they are replicas.

Costa Rica, a sheet with six stamps, bicentenary Independence.
The maritime stamp with the ship in the coat of arms is shown enlarged right again.

Gambia, two sheets with a total of five stamps about the hook fishing in the Atlantic Ocean.
The stamp with the fishing boats from the upper sheet is shown enlarged on the right.
On the lower sheet there is a dugout on the stamp.

Papua and New Guinea, a souvenir sheet of six stamps, 250th anniversary of captain Cook's first voyage.
His ship is shown enlarged on the right. It is the "Earl of Pembroke" who later got the
name "Endeavor" and here leaves Whitby harbor in 1768. A picture by Thomas Luny, 1790.

Austria, a single stamp for the day of the stamps 2018.
The steamer Thalia on the lake Woerther is depicted.

Germany, two individual stamps with the museum-freighter Cap San Diego and the tanker Seaconger.

Netherlands, five individual stamps. Depicted are MS Zaandam, the lighthouse Lofoten,
MS Nordcap, trawlers and a tug.

Sri Lanka, from a set of three season stamps this lighthouse Dondra Head.

Germany, in the yearly lighthouse serial these two stamps with the towers of Darsser Ort and
Wangerooge.

Djibouti, two sheets with five stamps, great sailing vessels.
Depicted are the Palinuro, Gloria, Eagle, Sedov and on the second sheet Royal Clipper,
Sagres and Amerigo Vespucci.

Other issued stamps, for the collector unreasonable stamps of Djibouti, Guinea,
Sierra Leone and Togo are not pictured here.
